Welcome to Corrective Chiropractic

If you have enduring chronic pain, chiropractic care has likely been suggested to you as the perfect treatment before. We at Corrective Chiropractic provide treatment to London, ON, residents. Here’s a breakdown of what our practice can do for you

What Is a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors are professionals who specialize in treating nerve, muscle, joint, tendon, and ligament problems. They use the initials DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) at the end of their names. To become a licensed chiropractic doctor, one must study at an accredited chiropractic college for 5 years, and study at a university for several years before. The chiropractic education program may encompass nervous system disorders, exercise therapy, adjustments (manipulations), bone disorders, and nutrition to name a few. Although chiropractors can treat various nerve, joint and muscle problems, many patients they attend to have back and neck pain or neuropathy.

What Causes Chronic Pain?

  • Compression fractures and osteoporosis
  • Herniated (slipped) or protruding (bulging) disc and pinched nerve
  • Obesity, which puts excess pressure on your spine
  • Degeneration of the vertebrae typically caused by wear and tear (small injuries over time) or abnormal stress on the ligaments and muscles supporting your spine
  • Strenuous activity, overuse, and improper use of your joints and muscles, such as heavy lifting and repetitive lifting

Techniques for Treating Aches and Pain

  • Spinal mobilization: This treatment involves the doctor slowly mobilizing the problematic spinal joint to correctly realign the spinal column and relieve severe back and neck aches and obesity-related joint pains.
  • Spinal decompression: As the name suggests, this technique involves the chiropractic doctor gently stretching and relaxing the spine while the patient is lying on a specialized traction table. Spinal decompression alleviates excess pressure on the spine, realigns the spinal discs, and frees any pinched nerves. This is not the same as inversion or typical traction.
  • Lifestyle advice: Many times, our own lifestyle is what is causing our pain. A chiropractor on our team can help inform you about good practices to avoid introducing pain into your life.

What to Expect for Your First Chiropractic Appointment

When you visit our chiropractic clinic seeking treatment, you will have a sit down with the chiropractor. During this sit down, we will ask you several questions about your neck, back, or joint ache like such as “When did that pain start and can you think of anything like an injury that might have brought the pain?”

A chiropractic doctor on our team will also analyze your health history and conduct a thorough physical exam on you, seeking to establish the cause of your back pain or neck pain or other problems. We might also order a couple of tests like a digital, high definition X-ray. After we figure out the root cause of your pain, we will develop a favorable treatment plan for you and start providing you chiropractic care.
